禅は詩であり 詩は禅である。
禅はキリスト教、仏教の本質であり 普通の人々の日常生活の中にある。

終戦直後 昭和天皇は処刑されず、皇室は存続。皇太子の教育係はイギリス人のブライス、アメリカ人のフレンド派クリスチャン（クエーカー：兵役拒否の教義）の婦人となった。
ブライスは記者団の質問「皇太子に何を教えているのですか？」という質問に
「ライフを教えている」と答え 物議をかもした。
「英語を教えている」「英詩を教えている」のであれば騒ぎは起きなかったのであろう。質問の含意は「皇太子を洗脳してませんか？」であるから ライフは 原義：存在 訳語：生き方。 「皇太子に生き方を教えている」と訳せる発言であるから 論議をひき起こしたのである。

If he had been "teaching English" or "teaching English poetry," there would have been no commotion. Since the implication of the question is "Are you brainwashing the Crown Prince?" He caused controversy because his remark could translated as "teaching the crown prince how to live."
