晩年のブライスは「日本の禅 ノーサンキュー お断りします」、「ハワイに移住したい」と言い、鈴木大拙は「とにかく病気が治ってから」と答えた。
日本嫌いということではなく、禅師のいう「はらえ、はらえ」。ひとつの境地にとどまるな、の実践と理解。ハワイは東西文化の観照には最適の地。

Later years of Blyth's. Idea Essay
In his later years, Blyth said, "No thank you for Japanese Zen." and, "I want to move to Hawaii."
